Dear Friends:
For the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to take the reins of leadership and steer Macomb County through its most difficult time in recent history. Although we’ve been successful at confronting our challenges, the budget problems in Lansing, if left unresolved, will quickly erode the progress we’ve made in Macomb County.
That is why I’ve decided to ask you for your support to serve you in the Michigan Senate!
Public service, for me, is about more than an individual aspiration — it is about being your voice and making decisions that positively impact the future for your family. I am running because I believe you deserve a Senator who understands the economic challenges that you and your family face. I grew up here in Macomb County and it is now where my wife, Sara, and I are raising our daughters. Like you, we depend on people working in our community and we depend on quality public schools so our children earn a quality education.
I made this decision knowing, both, what we face, and the difficult decisions that will be necessary to put Michigan back on track. My previous service in the State House gives me perspective on how to get things done in Lansing. That service is now complemented with the experience of serving as the chief elected official in Michigan’s third largest county.
As the Chairman of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, I asked everyone to lead by example, and help us change the way we do business. It started with the drive to reform government by electing a Macomb County Executive and cutting the number of Commissioners in half. It continued with the development of a real balanced approach to the county budget (balancing two budgets in less than one year). We carried on by making a real commitment to helping the businesses within our county and building better relationships across the globe. We are also making progress on expanding higher education in Macomb County so people have the opportunity to train for jobs that provide better pay and more security.
To continue this work, we need people in Lansing that are committed to leading on these important issues.
That is why I am asking for your help! I hope you will join our campaign that you will take a moment to fill out this form. I will always be inspired and remain motivated by the trust that you have placed in me by your support.
Respectfully,
Paul Gieleghem
